'06 PDS Only Has Reverse

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his PDS cart. The cart runs in reverse only, even when switched to forward and the reverse alarm doesn't shut off. When the F/R switch is switched to reverse, the reverse alarm sounds, press the accelerator and the cart moves backwards as it should. When he switches to neutral, the alarm still sounds and when switched to forward, accelerator pressed, the cart moves backwards and the alarm sounds. The key switch has to be shut off for the buzzer to stop. Once you turn the cart on and switch the F/R switch to any position, it the alarm goes off. Any ideas what it could be? I don't have the cart here yet, but will on Thursday. Any advice is appreciated.

See if you can put the cart into diag. Mode by toggle the tow switch to tow back to run. Then with the key off turn the f and r switch from neutral to reverse five time making sure you are on the reverse selection on the fifth time. The reverse buzzer will sound either 1, 2, 3 or 4 beeps indicating speed personality setting in the car. The next thing that will happen is a beeping noise will alert in a sequence. Like. Beep beep.........beep. Equalling a fault code of 2-1.

The first thing I would check is the F/R switch function. The easiest way to do this is to put the cart in maintenance mode, then measure at connector J1. Pins 1, 2, & 3 are the switch inputs with 1 being the common. In reverse 1/2 should be shorted / have continuity and 1/3 should be open. In neutral 1/2 & 1/3 should be open. In forward 1/2 should be open and 1/3 should be shorted.

Ok, first, thanks for the replies. I have the cart here and my buddy bought a new forward reverse switch. I did a continuity test on the switch and it checks out fine The pins for the switch are on the lower right side on J1 as you look at the controller when it's plugged in.

I also put the cart in diagnostic mode and there were no beeps for fault codes.

I noticed that he had one of his workers install new batteries. I wonder if they didn't put the cart in tow mode before they swapped them out and damaged the controller? What do you guys think?

Is there a way to test the controller to see if it's bad? Nothing looks burned on the plug ends of J1.

There is an output test with the DMM. put the test leads on B- and A1 on the controller, when the solenoid just clicks you should read the battery pack voltage... as the pedal is depressed that reading should go to near 0.

This test only checks output. 0 output can be caused by missing input signal OR control failure.

Thanks for the help guys. I pulled the controller out of the cart and opened it up. It had 2 burned diodes. I went to the local electrical supply store, bought new ones, soldered them in and re-installed the controller. The cart works like a charm and my buddy is as happy as a pig in #*\+. :

Nice, i have had poor luck with internal controller repairs (the replaced parts instantly fried again). Glad it worked for you.

Diddo - even the reman services have a low success rate. They often fail at the next weak link. Keep us posted
