Default transformation has begun

I have started to modify my newest cart.

I started with a stretch 08 TXT 36volt

I have removed the extended top and installed a sport windshield for the convertible look.

I added some white rally stripes to the blue paint job that look nice and will add side view mirrors today.

Things left on the list:
seat belts
light kit (Flashers/brakes/horn)
dash console
CD/MP3 player
4" lift / rims and tires
2" receiver hitch
HD rear leaf springs

Heavy torque motor with required upgrades (cables controller F/R ect)
I will be replacing the batteries as well.

Considering going 48v since I am doing new motor and batteries. From all I have read so far, most upgraded motors work with 36v and 48v and then I just replace the other components with 48v compatible parts and get a new charger??? I may be missing something here??

I'll get some pics up soon

you are right on the money.....and considering your cart is a limo (longer and heavier, and carries more people) I would HIGHLY recommend to do the 48v upgrade.....the cart really does need it.

OK, definitely going 48v with all the new stuff I am buying anyway, its a no-brainer.

It seems to me that the easiest way it go with six 8v batteries. Though I see that some here go with eight 6v batteries.

Is that just because it is cheaper to add 2 extra to your existing pack VS 6 completely new batteries???

Also, is there such a thing as a "Smart" charger that will charge both 36v AND 48v? If so, how would I tell if I was getting the right one?

Thanks for the input

The easiest is six 8v batteries but you may loose runtime since the BEST 8v battery you can buy is only rated at 204ah (that is still VERY good at 48v). It is also of course the most expensive.

Going with eight 6v batteries nets maximum runtime as the standard 6v battery is 225ah and you can buy up to 260ah. Trouble is you have to find room to mount 2 extra batteries. Shouldn't be a problem in a stretch cart.

I have attached the ah charts for both 6v and 8v batteries.

Yes there are 'smart" chargers that work for 36v AND 48v but they are not recommended usually. An example is the Stanley golf cart charger. It is extremely slow charging at 48v (16+ hours) and not very dependable long term. It is not a heavy duty transformer style charger.

Get a 48v DPI charger from ScottyB and don't look back. The DPI is programmable for several styles of batteries and will handle anything you throw at it.

Here's a list showing how various 8x6V and 6x8V battery packs stack up against each other.

Thanks for the info guys. I will have to think long and hard before I decided between 6 or 8 batteries.
But feel fairly certain about going 48v. Wondering about brakes now???

Jakes makes front discs for your cart, I have them and they work great combined with my auscos on the back.

Worked on an idea I had today for a few hrs.

I always liked my convertible 4seater, but the convertible 6seater just didn't look quite right.

So I decided on a roll bar for the rear seats. I cut down the rear uprights from the top to match the front windshield height.

Then I added some pipe insulation for a pad, and I will most likely get a black canvas sleeve with Velcro attachment to cover it.

What do yall think?
