More progress.

Lift and brush guard installed

Motor and other performance upgrades in progress.

My battery tray has some rust/corrosion so while I have it this far torn down, I am going to replace it as well

I am going with 8 6v batteries in the main battery bay. the extra two will be on the sides. The controller and onboard charger will be under the front drivers seat since this is a limo

The tear down continues.

Also got the new 650 controller in along with the HD FR switch and other goodies

Can anybody tell by looking at that old motor if it is original EZ GO? It says made in china???

still lots of work to do, but coming along

Part number indicates it is a stock EZGO series motor: https://shop.ezgo.com/products/Elect...eet-Speed.html

Thanks. Do you see any issues with my install? I re-located the controller to make room for the two extra batteries in the battery bay.

The on board charger (when it arrives) will go on the other side if it will fit. If not, I may put it back in the bag well somehow.

Thanks for any input/suggestions

Looks like you have a Nivel 459 (AXE4865) controller and a White-Rodgers 586-120111 contactor (solenoid), so you have a 200A continuous/600A peak solenoid feeding a 650A controller, which in turn is feeding a stock series motor.

The solenoid might be too small for the controller and the controller is too big for a stock motor.
You need to turn the controller's max amps down to about 400A to run the stock motor, so the 200A controller will be okay with that.
However, if you install an aftermarket motor for more torque and speed, you'll probably want to upgrade to a 400A/1000A controller.

I know Alltrax says their AXE controllers have a built in heatsink, I'm a firm believer in overkill, so I'd try to cut down the stock EZGO heatsink to fit where you have the controller mounted and then mount the controller on the heatsink.

Is there any other ventilation in the front seat pod except the hole in the floor where the cables run through?
The on-board charger and the controller won't be running at the same time, but they both put out heat, so good ventilation is something to keep in mind.

----------
The F/R switch appears to be fairly new, but if it goes out, I'd replace it with a reversing contactor located near the motor to keep the high current cable runs short.

Thanks JohnnieB

Just the kind of input I was looking for...

I am doing most of the labor, but my buddy is doing the wiring for me and has built countless carts.

The motor is going to be replaced with what I believe is a 12hp "Beast" The entire setup was a kit sold together but I will address your concerns with him.

I am going to look into using the heat sink and maybe add an additional vent to the front seat pod.

Thanks again. Can't wait till this thing is rolling again.

I can almost see the end...but not yet

I still have to put it all back together and get the dash (and everything on the dash) and light kit installed

My rims/tires finally came in, and the new motor and batteries are installed

I am hoping to have her complete for our neighborhood Mardi Gras parade this weekend
