Default tested 36v motor tell me what you think

Took the motor out Hooked battery jumper 12v Positive to A1 crossed A2 and S1 (w/ battery cables) hooked Neg to S2.. the motor just sits there I spun it and it stopped abruptly then spun it again it went about one inch then stopped ... Seems like a lot of play.. When I spin it it feels rough and does not free wheel .... Looks like I'm in the market for a new motor... Any other ideas.. Are these motors worth rebuilding?

These motors only have one end bearing In them at the bottom of the can by the brushes. The armature is supported on the other end via the differential. Do not apply voltage to a motor not installed in a cart.

Your wiring is correct, but you will have to have it mounted in the axle to support the shaft end of the motor. Hopefully no damage was done to you motor.

Thanks for the info guys.. The only reason I did the bench test was because I wasn't getting anything connected to the gear drive... For the heck of it I hooked it back up and tried it again on the cart with the 12v and nothing... I can spin the axle by hand pretty easily and could hear the brushes clicking.... Not sure if im supposed to hear that..?.. I ohmed the motor A1 and A2 got approx 6-7 ohms S1 and S2 grounded 0 resistance The As and the Ss were not shorted to each other.. Shouldn't A1 and A2 be grounded to each other so 0 ohms...?

6-7 ohms across A1 and A2 is way too high. It should look like a short to a regular ohm meter.
