88 Marathon Solenoid and MS wiring question
Replaced the speed switch board on this 88 Marathon, in doing so I removed the wires from my on/off switch, the wires on the small post of the solenoid and the micro switch that is on the speed switch board and of course the wires from the resistors.....
I rewired based on pics I took before... which turned out not to be as detailed as I thought at the time... I've wired the solenoid "small post wire" black wire in the pic.... to my on/off (key switch). This is where it went in my old pics.... The other "small post wire" "blue in the pics" goes to the micro switch on the passengers side of the FnR switch. This one I question ....... The red wire on the micro switch that is located on the speed switch board, is wired to the other leg of my on/off (key switch). But there is a blade on this same micros switch that I don't know what or if anything goes to it...... its barely visible in the pics... This I question..... Where do the wires on the micro switch ( that has the red wire on it in the pic) connect? With it wired up the way I have it, Im getting 36v on the large post of the solenoid. I think my problem is that I'm not energizing the small post of the solenoid but I don't know where my wiring is goofed..... By the way I do have a service manual but the diagram which is the same as the one on this forum, isn't real clear on the MS wiring Thanks Jack Last edited by jagun65; 03-03-2015 at 07:36 PM.. Re: 88 Marathon Solenoid and MS wiring question
The blue wire in pic 1 should go to the positive side on the battery same battery as the negative charger cable goes to. The blue wire on your contactor (pic 2) should go on the other side of the micro switch on the speed board.

Re: 88 Marathon Solenoid and MS wiring question
So do I not need to wire the micro switch with the (red wire) thats on the FnR switch (pic1) to anything?
I've read so much and may be confusing models, but it seems like the 2nd MS is used for the reverse buzzer which I dont have. |

Re: 88 Marathon Solenoid and MS wiring question
The F&R ms at the bottom of your pic is activated in both F&R positions. This switch will trigger the solenoid activation. It has lt blue and black wires on it, are they the same wires that go to solenoid small posts? IF yes, this is incorrect.

Re: 88 Marathon Solenoid and MS wiring question
No... The blue wire is going to the small post on the solenoid and the black wire on the ms goes to the round thing in the pic between the 2 ms as does the small red wire from the other ms .....

We need + and - at the 2 small terminals to power the cart. Have you got a meter? Sounds like you lost power to the ms with the solenoid wire on it. I notice you have only one wire on the speed wiper ms ? Is that wire 36v (+) all the time? |

Yes I have a meter, and right now I have 36v only on the large post of the solenoid. I cant figure out how to get V to the small post via the micro switches. Yes, there is only 1 wire on the speed wiper ms, I have no idea where the other wire goes. Nor do I know where the wires from the ms thats on the F&R (the one with the 1 red wire in the pics above). There was a broken wire on the other terminal that I removed to get the connector off.... thats why there isnt a blade terminal on this ms.... So to sum up I need to know the following: Where do the wires go from both ms on the F&R...... Where does the wires go from the ms on the speed wiper ms.... Where do i get power for the small post on the solenoid. |
