An option to consider.

Look at an Ez-Go RXV.
You can find "just off the golf course" or Neighborhood cruis'n ready.
Around here, nicely appointed w/warranty--in the $3,500.00 - 5000.00 range (Bling costs $)

Pros:

Stock Motor/controller gives better performance than many "upgraded" carts have.

Early models (2008/2009) had some issues with "parking/emergency" brake.
Well documented and easily spotted and corrected,(replace brake-45min +@$250.00 for part)

Extremely good as a people mover/neighborhood cart.

Has great speed(19.5 mph) with no upgrades or aftermarket to worry about.
Just a change to performance settings.

Exceptional hill climbing , does not slow dramatically on reasonable hills.

Good selection of after-market goodies.

W/trailer hitch, pulls reasonable trailer with ease.

Cons:

Effectively NO motor/controller upgrades.

Can be tricky to troubleshoot.(hand held programmer is needed )

Electrical system is not "user friendly" to modification.

Not a good cart to Lift.

Hope this helps !!!
Good Luck !!!

I must add, ezgo now offers a 350a controller upgrade for RXV (only 2012.5 and newer "curtis" models, but older models can be converted for $$ezgo$$ money). Have seen it, not tried it yet. Really want to. Will be expensive OEM stuff.

My total budget on this cart is in the neighborhood of $2500. As nice as an RXV sounds, it's just not attainable at the moment.

You should be able to build a nice PDS cart for that that will go 24 mph.

I guess I should clarify that I'm willing to spend $1000 on this cart. $600 of that will be used buying a new set of batteries. Option 2 is sell this cart, take the proceeds and add $1k for a total in the neighborhood of $2500 to buy another cart.

Maybe next year after I'm on solid footing with this cart, or in a new cart I can start turning up the juice. For now, it's just the basics.

Look around, Some folks have basic no frills RXV's (off the golf course) close to your price point.
Will perform great stock.. Add bling later.

Either way... Scotty b wont steer you wrong.
JohnyB and others are the upgrade pros...

Good Luck.
Have fun !!

Well, the deal is done. I'm now the owner of a precedent. The thing was immaculate and I knew there was no way I was going to get my txt even close to this condition for the money.

Thanks for all the advice. It looks like my brother in law is going to take the txt off my hands. He's not one to leave things alone so I'm sure it will be getting some goodies in no time.
