Axle Bearings & Seals
Hi all,
My Caroche based Vanguard Sport Coupe has the Terrell differential. It looks like I have to split the case to replace axle bearings, and seals? I searched and didn't find anything does any have experience with this project? Thank you, Aflyer |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
I hate being the only guy replying to my own question. HAHA
Does anyone have a Caroche with a Terrell differential, and know how to change axle bearings and seals? Thank you in advance, Aflyer |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
You don't have to split the case to replace axle bearings. Not sure why you would think that.

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Golf cart guy,
Thank you for the response, sorry I didn't see it sooner. I have attached a photo below, of the Axle plate, and do not see anyway to release the axle to remove it. I thought maybe there were c-clips inside the housing holding the axles in. I also have not been able to find a service manual for this car, so I just don't know how to proceed. The car is 44 years old, and it has been sitting for at least 6 years, the bearings sound fine, but it seems like a good time to change them to me. Thank you, Aflyer |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Ill admit I haven't pulled one out in probably 20 years. But if my memory serves me right, Its the same as the newer cars with a C clip
The Good thing about a Club Car- is the rear axle bearings rarely fail, even to this day. No noise, no issues, let it ride. The only issue I remember was the axle tubes would break off......yeah, break off. |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Some axles have clips inside the rear endthat hold them.

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Guys thank you for the input on removing the old axles.
I think I have the problem solved. I had dropped the original 36 Volt motor off at Plum Quick for a bandit upgrade. I found out today that the Armature on the original motor was shorted out, and not having much luck finding another one. So now I have a later model Grazziano Differential and a 10 Spline Series motor coming from David at Revolution Golf Cars. Somebody has to help him use up all those old DS parts he has laying around. Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Good morning all,
I am resurrecting this thread, because I am still interested in learning how to remove the axles from this Terrell rear-end. Hoping somebody will see this and have the answer. Thank you, Aflyer |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
As Golf Cart Guy says, I would think they would be like a newer cart with C-Clip.
Attached is a diagram from a 81-94 CC electric. See item#3 They are hard to see but if you clean it up real good and look through the hole in the flange (pic2 blue circle). You should be able to see the end rings of the clip. You would have to use a good 90 deg snap ring pliers from behind the flange (red arrow) and not through the hole to remove. I really think it's there but I could be wrong. My seal came out fairly easy (well almost). I did not replace the bearing. It's pressed on the shaft on my 03 DS. Yours probably is too. Note! When you reinstall the clip, make darn sure it is seated correctly!!! The axle can come out if that clip is not seated correctly! Tap it through the hole to seat it all the way around. Check it twice! |

Re: Axle Bearings & Seals
Raystar57,
You are correct. I had looked before and could not see them. I go out the flashlight and found them. My snap ring pliers won't fit in there, so off to the parts store to see what else I can find. Thank you again, Aflyer |
