Default Powerdrive 2 charger / 1998 DS not charging 48V

Hi and great work on this forum...!

I have read almost a sea of posts and tried everything but I'm reaching the end of my resources...

My cart is 48V, batteries are brand new, rectifier and ammeter on charger are new (Reading at charger plug when ON 61.5v). Readings at the receptacle are 49.9v between + and Grey / 37.0v between + and Black / Fuse on receptacle is good. Fuse on charger I understand is also good since when I bypass OBC and charger relay it jumps to 15 amps and charges batteries. I did a OBC reset and charger kicks in at 0 amps and stays like that for 15 min or so before stoping and car warning light coming ON as incomplete cycle. Any help from this point here will be greatly appreciated...

If it kicked in and charged after you bypassed the OBC then it is telling you that you have a bad OBC. This is also reflective by it going at zero amps and shutting off when not bypassed.

The OBC controls the charger in regard to cutting on, off and amount to charge.

You can bypass it for now and will have to manually watch the charge (as it will not shut off) and order a new OBC. The other possibility is to bypass/remove the OBC and purchase a new auto-sense charger to replace your power drive unit.

Much thanks for your quick reply!

Then is definitely the OBC... Now will have to decide which way to go OBC or Charger in terms of reliability on the long term... Guess an auto sense chargers sounds good idea...

Thanks!!

You might be able to find a used one here on the forum but not a cheap part. I would get a DPI charger, bypass the OBC and good to go. Sell the old charger and make up some of the difference. My 2 cents.
