The problem was the capacitor. I took it to a Golf Cart store and the guy knew what the problem was immediately after hooking it up to one of his carts. He hooked it up to his tester and that just confirmed it for him. It didn't take 10 minutes from the time I brought it in until the capacitor was changed. It cost me $68 out the door. What a waste. I could have purchased the capacitor for just 20 bucks and installed it in a few minutes just like they did. There's no soldering, just spade type connectors.
I was hoping to get a diagnosis when I posted my original description of the problem hereon. That didn't happen and I bit the bullet and took it to a shop for repair. Now I've come back to wrap up this post in the hopes I'll save someone else some bucks with the diagnosis. So, if your charger turns on, but the needle doesn't move above 3, 4, maybe 5 amps, then one of the most likely culprits is the capacitor. |
