Default 01 PDS Motor Spinning but NO Go

Well I have been having charging issues with my PDS. Finally got a full charge on and decided to go test ride. Everything was running fine then hit small dip at maybe 10 mph. Hit accelerator pedal again and heard motor spin but I was not moving. Btw I am running a Plum Quick purple motor and upgraded controller.

Ok. Pushed it back to spot and tried to troubleshoot. Same thing happens in forward and reverse. Push on pedal and no movement. Took motor off and reconnected to wires. Pushed on pedal and motor spins in both directions. Put a little resistance on motor (without breaking my hand) and it seem to have plenty of power. Splines on both motor and cart gearing seem to look good on the mounting point without any metal shavings or pieces.

I have not removed the bottom end of gearing where axle meets gearing but while motor was off I pushed cart back and forth. The top gear was spinning which made me believe the bottom gear was good (obviously visual inspection is best).

Here are questions:

1. Anyone have anymore ideas or troubleshooting tips?

2. Is the upgraded 48volt/motor/controller too much for a stock 36v rear end?

Probably the brake hub stripped out. Would almost guarantee it's that. That seems to be the weak point in EZGOs.
The more powerful motor would accentuate that problem.

Thanks Spoiled.

Easy fix? Expensive? Best place to get parts and is there an upgrade to make it stronger?

Axle/Hub splines stripped. It only takes one side to fail to disable cart.
There might be enough friction the spin the differential gears when the cart is pushed by hand, but axle will spin in hub when motor is trying to move cart.

Ooops - someone beat me to the punch.

The hubs aren't that cheap, but they are definitely needed unless you go to disk brakes. The key to making them last is to torque them to about 130 ft lbs when you install. Do not back off just to make the keeper pin work. Torque upward until the pin will go through. If you back off, you'll have the same problem you have now of it stripping out. I hope this helps.

That totally helps. I already have disc brakes and now I know exactly the area you are talking about. Sounds like it is going to be ultra expensive now.

Two problems. Well three.
1. You drive a Toyota
2. You have a blue and green boat
3. You drive that cart like a scolded monkey...
4. (I'll just throw this one in for good measure) You have bad karma for laughing at my blown Rhino motor. But in return something evil will happen to me for laughing at your situation with ol' blue eyes.

Call Premier Carts 928-680-1770 they are in Havasu and are an EZ Go dealer. They probably have the part you need. I'm sure you know, but if not, they are right next to the place Dondi takes Guiness.

See you tonight!
