Default Diodes

There has been some discussion about diodes on solenoids. My question is do all club car IQ carts need diodes on the solenoid. Mine is a 2003 IQ. I do not have a diode on my solenoid, should I put one on it? Are there some carts that do not need them?

Your IQ cart does have one on it!! It is very small and attached to the solenoid between the 2 small blade connectors.

A good many of the square CC solenoids had an internal diode on the activation circuit. These solenoids are identified by their shape and the RED + sign on one small post.

The last time I was working around the solenoid I did not notice the diode. I will have to pull the cover off and look closely now, Thanks for the responses.

. . . are the internal diodes replaceable or is the solenoid considered "expendable" . . .?

Sure enough, that little sucker is right where you said it was. So small and under the wiring I never saw it before. BTW, my solenoid also has a sticker showing the pos. spade.
