heatsink on controller

First of all I used his advice I remounted it to the aluminum housing which took me almost 2 hours the do. Drove the cart around the neighborhood and the same thing happened. I called FSIP this morning and sent the controller back. Dave is a very smart man when It comes to this, that's why I reached out and messaged him. I don't need a smart *** remark about not using his advice.

The first time it went into thermal shut down I messaged Dave the exact day it happened. The second time it went into thermal shut down was after I remounted it to the aluminum housing where the factory Curtis controller was mounted. If I creep like 5-10mph it will get hot and shut down, motor is cool to the touch, but controller is hot of course, but if I drive around on full throttle it's perfectly fine. That's why I thought it might be a mcor problem, or it's possible that the field map loaded in the controller doesn't work correctly with my new motor. Either way this should not be happening on ground that's flatter than a sheet of paper.

I have almost the exact same set up as you except I have the 500amp Curtis controller. It wouldn't mount to the back of the metal plate so I turned it around and mounted it on the plastic cover behind the plate. Is this going to be a problem Dave? If so, how do I mount it being there is no room on the back side of the plate? Thanks

I used a Dremel tool to cut the piece of aluminum that was around the old controller. So that the play was flush. I then turned the controller around used a sharpie to mark the bolt holes from the controller. I then drilled out the holes and mounted the controller. Afterwords I remove the plastic box, and made a skid plate out of aluminum to bolt under the cart. To protect the controller wires and solenoid.

I looked into that the other day, but I really don't think it will fit on the plate regardless what I trim off. The new controller is considerably bigger. What other options do I have?

Good new on getting the controller sent back. As I originally said process of elimination and new stuff can be bad. Also adding that heatsink is vital when using that much current under heavy loads. We discussed the mocor assuming everything else was new and working properly. I suspect the controller is faulty from what your saying and he took it back so easily. Good customer service I'll remember that. Let us know what he finds as far as others giving you advise it is with good intentions, so maybe explaining to him that you tried that and no luck it would of gone easier. I know things happen and he didn't know that but let bygones be bygones and move forward, I think it was all in good faith, that is the purpose of a site like this.

Absolutely, fsip said I shouldn't need a heat sink with my set up. But I thought you was on to something when you brought up mcor and resistance problem. A heat sink is a piece of aluminum with metal fins that allows cooling. Also fsip said that my mcor is fine, he asked me if it was jerky or if I had to pump the peddle in order to engage the solenoid. And I said no, he said it could be a programming issue, so send it back in for service.

Dave that's exactly how mine looks know, do you have a heat sink on the other side with a picture?
