Default Light Kit Hook-Up

It seems like the light kit is hooked up to one of the four 12v batteries. It’s also not limited by the key meaning I can turn the lights on when the cart is off.

Does having the light kit hooked up to just one battery wear down the one battery faster than the others? It was dealer installed.

Should I invest in a 48v to 12v converter? I plan to add the golf cart LeD under body light kit.

I am a novice at best but can say with confidence that not only will it wear the one battery down, the one battery will then overwork the other batteries.

Definitely invest in a quality converter from one of the site sponsors.

I am a complete newbie with Electric (1 day)
That’s what I suspected - at first I thought “oh that makes sense since it’s a 12v battery” but thinking about it and how they are connected in a series I started thinking “does this just pull from that one battery”

I don’t understand why the dealer would install it that way - cheap short cut or is this not that big of a problem?

Any recommendation on a 12v converter?

I want to hook up the led head/rear lights, led underbody kit, a usb charging port and a horn.

Thanks

Although ezgo at one time was also commiting this sin, it is the cheap/wrong way to do it. It Does draw from just one battery, and it does eventually cause battery imbalance and harm. Your thinking was spot on.

I’ll make a video for the folks in my community. So they can see why they should not do business with them.

They keep buying from the same local dealer becasue he’s strategically right out in front of it and he over charges and puts his decals all over the carts.

When I was first in the market many years ago he laughed at me when I told him “I don’t want any of your sticker on the cart I buy” he laughed as said we will never let a cart off this lot without those stickers. I said well clearly you don’t need my business then.

A few years later I needed a screw that fell out of the shifter (forward / reverse - gas model) and the parts guy asked if I got the cart there. I said no a and he said I can’t help you. I said why. He said we don’t carry just screws. So I asked can you at least tell me what size it is and he said he was busy and walked to the back.

I went to the hardware store down the road and bought several sized machine screws for a total of $1.67 and I found the one that fits. Shitty shop and I am not surprised they cut corners like this. They are banking on their customers needing new batteries quicker to keep folks coming back.

Thanks for your help. I’ll get a proper 48v to 12v converter.
