Basically you have two tires from different generations that were sold under the same model name, and specifications may have changed between generations. The tire size stamped on the sidewall is "Nominal" size and everything except the last number (Rim Diameter) is very approximate. The first set of numbers (18 ) is the generic tire height class. The actual tire height (Diameter) will vary and the mounted tire diameter will depend on the width of the rim it is mounted on. The second set of numbers (8.50) is the generic tire width class. The tire width is the widest point from sidewall to sidewall. That will also vary according to the width of the rim the tire is mounted on. The third set of numbers (8 ) is the rim diameter. This is fairly true and consistent since diameters of rims tend to be pretty close from manufacturer to manufacturer. The tread width is not defined. If mounted on different width rims, the same tire would have different mounted dimensions. About the only thing the two tires pictured have in common is that they are made of rubber. Other than that, it is an apples to oranges comparison. |
