Really appreciate the help. I got the winch mounted this afternoon & hope to start/finish the wiring tomorrow afternoon. Any idea as to why a 24 volt winch was recommended if there could be a balance issue?

Re: Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
The higher the voltage, the lower the amperage. If they offered a 48 volt winch, that would have been better, but any voltage below that will result in either buying auxiliary batteries, or a reducer, or tapping off of some of your batteries. I'm betting that at 12 volts, you'd need a pretty big reducer. 48 to 24 volt reducer would be the best, but I don't know if "consumer" grade 48 to 24 volt reducers are out there. I'm sure you can find an "industrial" grade DC to DC converter (reducer), but it might cost more than your winch.

To answer you question, "why...", even EZ-GO used to tap two of the 6 volt batteries for all accessories, and if the pack got unbalanced, that was your problem. For older 36 volt carts, there was probably close to 10 amps on two batteries for a long time if you drove at night with headlights. Your occasional use is probably not a big deal. I'd recommend spending $15 or so and buy a hand-held digital multi-meter (DMM), if you use it a lot.

Your winch is powered by a 24-volt pack. To get 24 volts, connect 3 batteries in series assuming each battery has 8 volts (or 4 batteries if they are 6 volts). That is the plain and simple answer to your question.

Re: Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
Thanks. I actually ended up getting a new Beast buggy today due to a bad motor in the one I just bought. While I was there the techs installed the Warn 24v RT 3000 for me. Here are the pics of the wiring (Red power goes to the back middle positive and black goes to front right negative). Works great.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but it looks like only two 8 volt batteries are being used.

Yeah. In the pic it starts with the bottom right battery and goes to the middle left battery.

Re: Warn 24v RT30 to Beast48 Wiring Help Needed
So it's running at 16 volts instead of 24?

No. The connection starts on what I call battery #1 (bottom right), then includes battery #2 (middle right), then includes battery #3 (top right), then includes battery #4 (top left) and ends on battery #5 (middle left).
