Default Monitor with shunt question

Is it ok to wire the monitor through the key switch? If so does it need to go through a relay? Or just Power direct to pack and Leave the monitor on all the time?

Helping install Big Battery 48V HSKY in 2016 Yamaha.

Default Re: Monitor with shunt question

I think I found my answer . The monitor we are using is a camway 8-120v
0-500 amps. This will fit in the round hole where the existing volt meter is now.
I found the information below in the question and answer section about the monitor.

“While in standby (0 amps through the shunt) the unit appears to be waking up at a 1 hertz rate to sample the current. Because of that sampling, the idle current bounces from between 1ma to what I'm guessing to be about 7ma. Just use 5ma for an average number. So at rest, this unit will consume .005 x 24 = 0.12 amp/hours per day from your battery.”

So direct wire to pack it will be. Battery supposed to ship today.

It's great when members answer their own questions. I wish I could do that more!

But yes, mine is on all the time. It is nice to walk by the cart and see the remaining ampere hours on the guage.
