Default Cart Identification

I bought a Harley Davidson gas cart a year ago. I don't know anything about these carts, found it on Craigslist and wanted it. Briefly looked at it, paid for it, loaded it up (in the dark). I did some research and learned about where to look for the ID tag. I discovered the tag was missing, it had been removed for some reason. I was told it is a early 80s model. Why would someone remove the ID tag? I also was told since the tag is missing, the cart won't be worth restoring. It has Harley Davidson medallions on it and the body looks like a Harley cart. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

my guess is that the cart is stolen thats why the tag was removed.
these carts are not worth much to begin with so removing the tag isn't going to hurt the value.

Thanks for the reply. I hope the cart isn't stolen, I guess there is no way of finding out for sure. I always make it a practice to get "Bills of Sale" for non-titled equipment. That being said I am relieved to find out the cart was not valuable. I paid $300 for it. My plan is to eliminate the original engine and replace with another type of power unit. I also want to chop and extend the wheel base and make it into a 6 passenger vehicle. Any inputs? Thanks

I would restore the cart to a good solid looking and running condition and keep it for a fun ride or sell it and buy a better suited cart that has upgrades and accessories available.
