Re: speed drops on grades
What do you mean CG? It seems to cycle fine, but now I'm concerned that is not fully charging them.

Re: speed drops on grades
Get the voltmeter out or better yet install an in the dash digital meter and watch the charge cycle. Post the highest reading you get (see) when the charger is nearing the end of the cycle.
Then let the pack rest and settle for 12-24 hours and see what the voltage is. Post those number here. Lastly, attach the meter to the pack (or get the in dash meter) and head up the hill that slows to cart unbearably. This is a load test on freshly charged batteries - post the lowest number you see while going up hill. That's 3 readings we need. Highest voltage under charge. 12 hrs after the charge. lowest under load. With this information we will be able to know if the charger is doing a proper job. What packs ability to hold a charge is = their general condition The packs true condition under load. |

Re: speed drops on grades
Installed a digital volt meter yesterday, so I can get that information to you mid week. Working 2 jobs for the next couple days. Thanks guys.

Re: speed drops on grades
Update. Voltage at charge was 42.7 up until the charger cut off. Then it immediately dropped to 40.8. Wasn't able to let it sit for 12-24 hours because I needed it pretty quick, and with the 3 of us on it, it dropped to 31.4 volts on the big hill. It also took it about 8.5 hours to charge. Is this normal?

Re: speed drops on grades
I would like to see the high # under charge in the 44-46v range and dropping to 31 after a fresh charge may indicate battery (ies) in poor condition, check water levels & do it again.

Re: speed drops on grades
What is the correct water level? How far above the cells or how far from the top? Any way to condition the batteries?

Re: speed drops on grades
Fill them after charging - just up to the edge of the plastic ring inside. Too low and plates are exposed, too high and you will get some acid coming out the caps during charging.

Re: speed drops on grades
I'm thinking the batteries are bad.
But 8.5 hours is a long time, like they were really discharged. When I got my cart...still has the same old batteries in it . They were so lw the charger wouldn't cuton. I manually charged them with a 12v charger 2 at the time. I did each set for 6 to 9 hours or so . Took the golf charger like 10+ hours to finish them after that. And mine are bad to weak. Only charge to about 75 to 80% and not much run time gets them down. I still will see a higher voltage than yours at peak charge. |
