Slop in axle to spindle mount.
See attached picture (not my cart).
This are has a good bit of slop back and forth on my 1996 TXT. I was swapping the front and rear tires on one side to try and locate the cause of a bumpy ride and noticed this while the front was jacked up. Doesn't seem to want to tighten either. Should this have any play? |

That bolt drops through bushings inside the knuckle. If it's not kept well lubed it will wear (usually the bushings more so than the bolt). No other "adjustment" there.

Depending on where the slop is, you will need to replace something.
Is the slop in the vertical plane (top and bottom), or Horizontal (left to right). If Horizontal, then check the tie rod end, and steering components. If Vertical, Tighten the bolt shown. If that doesn't fix it, then remove the bolt and look at the hole in the axle where the bolt was (is it elongated). If so, that's your problem. If not, look at the bushing in the axle that the bolt runs through, is there slop in that, if so replace the bushing. |

Before you start messing with the axle, the king pin bushings wear out, and can be replaced. If it is moving back and forth, its a very good chance , just the bushings need replacing.
