Thanks, Bob! This makes sense as everything worked with it disconnected so I couldn't figure it out. Reconnected it. Nothing changed that I could tell. Didn't want a wire flopping around the battery pack but wanted to make sure it was OK to reconnect.

You can also attach Digital multi meter in series and read amperage back to battery negative. This will let you know that the circuit is carrying some type of load and is being used.
