Battery help
Hello, my 2001Club Car started acting up, it is a 48 volt, I'm running eight 6 volt Trojan t-105's. The batteries are about 4 years old, and have always been kept full of water, and charged as soon as it was back in the garage. Recently I ran the charge down way to low, my bar graph gauge was in the red and flashing, I did this twice in the last month on accident. When I take off in the cart it has lost its acceleration, and my digital bolt meter says I have very low voltage taking off, it starts to ramp up but never hits 48 volts. It is also losing its charge very fast as compared to how it was previously. I drove it around the block and it dropped three bars right away. I checked all batteries with a multi-meter, getting just over 6 volts on all batteries except one, it is just under 5 volts. My neighbor brought over a load tester, so we un-hooked all of the batteries and load tested each one. We ramped each one up to 100 amps and held it for ten seconds, they all held at 5.2-5.5 volts except the one suspect bad battery, it wouldn't even show any voltage when put under a load. Would one dead battery cause what I'm describing? Any other thoughts on what I should or can check?
Thanks! |

Re: Battery help
Most definitely. I used to teach basic electronics and in order to help someone understand voltage and current I would equate electron flow to water flow where voltage equals water pressure and current equals the size of the hose or volume of water. With one bad battery, you have one very large kink in a very large hose. HTH

Re: Battery help
Thanks for the input guys, looks like time for new batteries. Also, what's your thoughts on the various battery saver/tenders available, such as the Granite 2365-48 model, or the Battery Desulfator from BKLS?

Re: Battery help
I use a Yewey 1200z charger with float mode. Love it since my cart sits for periods where I am traveling on business and it sits unused. HTH
