Batteries bad?
Hello, think I am going to be replacing my batteries but wanted some opinions on the issue. I have a 2011 Ezgo TXT that was customized by Cruz carts in 2016. Only had it for about 6 months. I noticed once the charger never seemed to shut off and get hot but did charge it. One time I left it sitting for a few months (building home and it was stored at parents house) and the batteries went so dead I had to charge individually with a boat charger. Last night I took cart out for a drive. it hadn't been charged in 2 days but the meter showed it was down about 4 lines or 1 or so above the middle. Got about a mile from the house, turned lights on and the cart kinda shuttered or did a stop and go jerky thing... within minutes the meter dropped a few lines and cart came to a craw..... I made it back home but going like 1mph and had to push up the driveway. once in garage the meter showed very bottom line and flashing (dead). I charged it for 5 hours and checked and it didn't come up at all. I think they are done
It appears these batteries are original from 2011, they look clean and water is in them above plates but plates inside seem oxidized. The batteries also start to gas/bubble pretty much within an hour of charging. I think this all seems to be pointing to bad batteries. What do you think??? |

Re: Batteries bad?
It is not oxidation on the plates, it is sulfurization and it is most definitely time for new batteries.
If fact, it was probably due a new set of batteries when it was customized in 2016. The 2011 batteries would have been upwards of 5 years old then and not many battery sets last much longer than that. |

Re: Batteries bad?
that's what Im thinking. Now I have to choose Trojan t875 or powertron CG860
Can get a set of Trojan t875 locally for 672 Or the powertrons for 552. Seems Trojan also makes powertron so im not sure which way to go??? T875 worth the extra? Whats really the difference? |

Re: Batteries bad?
Also know that the "Curtis 10-led bar graph meter" does not rise incrementally while charging, it only resets to full when the batteries reach full charge. That condition apparently was not met. And the bar graph meters only read "correctly" (I'm using the term loosely here) on batteries that are balanced, and in fairly good shape.

Re: Batteries bad?
The Powertron batteries are 160AH while the T-875 is 170AH, so the T-875 will have better range on a single charge and a longer cradle to grave lifespan, however, the cost per month over their respective lifespans is within a few pennies of each other.
The Powertron is a TV8 in a black case. |
