Default Club car ds 48v slow 2004

A buddy of mine just bought a used Club Car DS and it is slow, i'm guessing 12 mph. its serial number is DS04 which I looked up to be a 2004 48v Club Car DS powerdrive which I'm not quite sure what the power drive portion stands for. From what I can tell its a Series motor on his cart. It does have bigger wheels installed but the rest seems stock

The batteries test out good but this thing is still slow. What's the first step to see about getting this to go faster?

appreciate any guidance!

Thanks!

Does it have a lever for the FNR or a rocker switch?

Ok, so it's definitely a series drive. Series carts are just slow by nature. 10-12 mph is about all they'll do stock on level ground. The best way to speed up a series cart is to install a high speed motor.

thanks. Is a new controller beneficial in this situation or will that be just for the torque aspect?

Yeah with series carts, higher amperage only equates to more torque.
