Default 1997 EZGO controller issue

Hi guys. New member here. Great forum. I’ve found a lot of great info here already and I’m hoping someone can help me out here. I’m helping a friend get his cart running again. The cart is a 1997 ezgo 36v. The initial issue was that he smelled burned electronics and noticed smoke was coming from his controller. It was the stock controller, 1206 I believe. We used the great troubleshooting guide on cartsunlimited to test all the components. We were not getting any voltage on B+ and M-. Everything else checked out. So we ordered a new controller, G633 from golframa. Once replaced the cart moved a little bit and then stopped. Now we aren’t getting any voltage again between B+ and M-. Is it possible the controller is bad? Or am I missing something else?
