Rear axle oil change.
Hey guys, on my continuing journey of maintenance and repair I'm getting ready to change the rear axle oil.
Through searching I'm seeing that my cart (2013 EZGO TXT 48V) uses 12oz of 30 wt motor oil? I'll be using black gasket maker, is it correct that oil can be added back through the drain hole? My cart works kinda hard at times ( as far as four large people regularly), maybe a 40wt.. 50wt?? Thanks Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

Maybe I'm missing something, I've watched a couple videos on changing the rear axle oil but I don't see how you could get oil back in through the drain hole.

I suppose you add the oil to the pan before you reinstall it??

Re: Rear axle oil change.
Look for a vent on top of one of the axle tubes. On my RXV it was a plastic vent pushed into a hole in the axle tube. It just pulled it out, pumped the oil in the hole and replaced the vent. Not sure if the TXT is the same.

Re: Rear axle oil change.
I was wondering the same thing on my 2015 RXV as there is a rubber drain blug on bottom f pan but the only fill plug I found was the small (3/8" diameter) on top of axle tube. Is the rubber plug on pan the ONLY plug OR does it hide a screw type drain plug?

Re: Rear axle oil change.
I'm following this thread closely as my 2010 RXV has a rubber plug on the pan and lacks a fill plug shown in the service manual.
The service manual says to pull the axle out of the tube to fill. That just doesn't seem practical, but then I'm new to all of this. |

Re: Rear axle oil change.
Thank you. Good to know. It doesn't seem difficult, but I'm concerned about messing a seal up to do this.
I'm needing to go through my whole cart due to a lack of trust with my local cart "refurb dealer". I used to change trans fluid on GM Turbo 400s and it was a very messy job. At least those had fill tubes to make re-fill convenient. |
