Scotty, your line in quote above has me confused and makes me wonder if I’m seeing things wrong on the diagram.
Only the small -terminals should be connected on what, and to what? The reversing contactor to the switch?

Doesn’t the diagram show the contactor small - (bottom row) being jumpered together (B in diagram) and wired to controller B- (A wire in diagram)?

Then both small + (top row) go to rocker switch, one on each side of blue from pedal/solenoid?

Wish I could take a picture and diagram the contactor small terminals but it’s buried, I’ll mock something up from another picture if needed, that line above has me wondering if I’m seeing something on this wiring diagram wrong

Pretty sure it dawned on me what's wrong this morning. Hopefully I can grab a couple minutes through the day to adjust some wires and will report back. As assumed it's a rookie wiring mistake I think Partially a function of a tight install and only seeing 1 side of the contactor while wiring and partially a rookie staring at a wiring diagram. I'll report back soon so my silly mistake can be captured in time for all to see and laugh at for years to come

Got things rewired and I've got both forward and reverse now. Yes it was a newbie wiring mistake, thankfully no damage done. It feels silly now looking at it but I can see why I did it and kept staring at it thinking it was OK.

I only wired 1 physical side of the reversing contactor small terminals. Looking down at the picture of my install from above I only wired the right side in the picture (under where all the cables go back to the motor.) I had both top row + going to the switch and both - jumpered together and to m-.

I remember thinking as I was trying to find room for everything I had to leave enough room on the side of the contractor facing the metal wall with the key etc on it to get a hand in to connect the small terminals, which I did but just barely. However that was weeks before I started wiring up...when wiring I was staring at the wiring diagram and the 1 side of the contactor with 4 small terminals, which looks exactly like the 4 small terminals on the wiring diagram so I wired it up to match the diagram.
The solenoid is also right there and looks exactly the same with 4 small terminals so nothing triggered in me that I was wiring it wrong. I remember thinking multiple times that must be why I'm jumpering the two - together, because that vertical plastic divider between small terminals really is dividing the left from the right so it kind of made sense each + could be different inputs....but looking back that's silly
For some reason this morning while not even looking at the cart it dawned on me that there were small input terminals on the other side of the contactor...and that's where I was jumpering to etc....silly me.
Pretty easy fix and on jack stands I've got F and R. Thanks so much for the help and listening to a cart newbie. I've built my share of stuff and done lots of 12v troubleshooting while being a car audio installer/shop owner but carts are new to me so troubleshooting when you don't have a baseline for what's normal is tough. This has been fun though.
Johnnie your zoning me in on the contactor helped tremendously! Thanks so much.

First test run outside the shop tonight and the first time the old 84' has been outside the shop since mid February when it was hoisted in by a tractor folded in a V from a rusted out frame

Ha! Those are great, a couple made me laugh out loud. Might have to use a couple of those with the kids, they give me weird looks when I stump them with a weird quote that makes them think
