Nearly fifty years ago when I was cutting my teeth as a medical equipment repair manager in a 750 bed city owned hospital, there was a HR director (who had a PhD in basket weaving or something like that) that asked why I was selecting ex-military people without degrees to fill positions in my shop over college graduates (the ink still wet on their sheepskins). My reply wasn't exactly the words quoted above, but the implication was the same.
