Default Newbe needs some help and advice

I am new to Golf Carts. I have a G2 buy the ser. number a 85. I have bought the cart to tow my drag car around the track. 99.9% of the time thats what it will be used for right now. I have had no trouble making it look better. (will post a picture when I can figure out how) The cart came with the governor removed the same with the air box now it has a K & N filter. I change the oil and added a new spark plug. Had trouble with the fuel supply so I replaced the fuel pump with a new one and the carb was change because of all the garbage in the old pump and fuel tank. The cart runs well but I would like a little more power. The race car that I have is a VW bug that weighs about 1300 lbs. Any help would be great..

Thanks

Wayne

Welcome to BGW!

Sounds like you may want more low end torque for towing. Check out our site sponsors for power kits.

There is not much to be had with the stock motor, you can put a free flowing air filter and exhaust on it, and rejet richer...that is about it. I don't know if the timing key does much far as power with most it helps them rev higher. Other than that you can clean and lube the clutches the better they work the more power you will have, a new belt helps too, and make sure the tension cable is there under the generator pulley and adjusted right. Too tight it loses top speed and too loose it bogs pulling heavy load from a stop.

Otherwise put a larger engine in it check out the big block section here. I just put a 16hp clone in one see my thread here in yamaha gas about it. It was a pain to do the air intake otherwise not bad. It certainly has more power in particular on the bottom end it jets up hills now. They are only $380 and $50 for the clutch adapter or get a new clutch you can adjust more. A v twin is going to be nicer if you have the extra coin.

Lifts hurt pulling power with higher gearing, what I did with mine that helped the most is I ground the last part of the ramps on the secondary. I put more ramp into them, now under a load it winds up more up to about 5mph. I could pull my boat out of the lake after I did that and had everything else working well.
