Batteries gurgling long after charge
Hi everyone, first time poster here.
I bought my first cart, an 06 Club Car Precedent, and have found this site to be an invaluable resource! I knew nothing about this hobby a few months ago but have now successfully completed several upgrades thanks to this community. I hope to be able to contribute from my own experiences soon. My question for today is as follows: The batteries in my cart (4x12V U.S. Battery) make a steady bubbling/gurgling sound while they are at steady state - is this normal? I've read numerous threads regarding bubbling noises while charging or shortly after, however I'm noticing it weeks after charging. I fully charged my cart and parked it in my garage while I've been working on it for almost 3 weeks now and can hear bubbling every few seconds. I've also noticed a pool around each fill hole building up. This is new after I charged, neutralized/washed, and dried the batteries 3 weeks ago. I should mention I've read the battery maintenance posts and am very confident the cells are not overfilled. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Tony |

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
Hello I'm no pro here but the first things I would be looking at it battery voltage after a full charge to see if your charger is shutting off and not over charging, but 3 weeks after a full charge I'd be looking at the seals on your caps.... How old are the battery's?

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
You can get new seals for the US Battery 12v batteries? Mine spill over slightly during charging and they are not over filled.

My old US bats did that too.

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
Thanks for the input!
The date code on my pos terminal is D 0, which if I'm not mistaken is April 2010. I'll put the charger on over night and let it fully charge and report back with some numbers. In the meantime I'll start looking for some new speedcaps! Cheers |

My 8v interstates are doing the same thing. They never stop bubbling and weep out of the caps even tho there not overfilled. Mine are getting weak so im going to be changing them as I believe the constant bubbling is a sign its time for new batts. Curious to see what your voltage readings are.

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
I had a flip cart I bought off Craigslist with 2008 batts.
They constantly gurgled, didn't matter if they were dead, charged, being charged, not being charged, etc. |

Where do you find new speedcaps? I googled it with no luck. Found 1 used one on ebay.

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
is it possible there is a small short in the system and they are under a constant load or draw type condition?
or are they just going bad inside and shorting themselves ever so slightly? they wont bubble without heat and if the cart system is not shorted, as it seems probably not because in this thread this is a common issue with older batteries, maybe we found a sign of them self destructing little by little due to internal plate shorts, I dont know. |

Re: Batteries gurgling long after charge
The bubbling is a reaction to overcharge not to heat. When the batteries overcharge, they turn the H2O into H2 and O2. These hydrogen and oxygen bubbles can ignite. All chargers overcharge because that is the only way to keep a series battery pack balanced.
