PDS no go
Mornin all,
having an issue with my 2001 pds cart. it wont go more than 3mph, and while moving the cart beeps three times. not sure if it is relevant or not, but recently while charging i noticed that the charger was not turning off automatically. I think i may have over-charged the batteries? Any help would be appreciated! |

Re: PDS no go
Double check the error code you are getting and reference the chart on the controller cover. Likely the solenoid is welded shut or the speed sensor failed?

Re: PDS no go
How about some battery voltage readings under various conditions for us to ponder over and eliminate some guessing what's wrong. Also check the water level.

uh, how do i do that? Water level is good, and i keep up on the maintenance. I did, however, replace a battery that my wife blew up driving in the mtns. I did not charge it separately like i should have. thanks |

Re: PDS no go
Start with a good digital volt meter.
Connect the red lead to the positive and the black to the negative. Should read around 36 volt unless you have added batteries. Also check the individual battery voltages, should all be around 6 volt. Charge the batteries and see what the peak voltage is during charging. Let the cart set for at least 12 hours and check the voltage again. Also check the individual battery voltages again. This is called 'at rest voltage'. The at rest voltage should be around 38.2 for the pack. Also should be about 6.37 for each individual battery. If any one or more batteries are different, like 6.0, or 5.4, then they are probably bad and will need to be replaced. If you note all this in a reply along with battery types and age (usually a date stamped on the neg post like A1 would be Jan 2011) then maybe someone here can offer further advice on what to do. |

Re: PDS no go
Ok, so i finally had time to test the batteries, and here is what i found.
charging amps= 42 all batteries at rest are 6.8 after charging, except for the one battery i recently replaced-that one is 6.1 volts total volts are 39.1 after charging I bought these batteries about three years ago and have maintained them well. I unplugged the charger after the batteries started to boil, not sure if i got a full charge or not. The charger has always worked well, so not sure why it is not shutting off. thanks again |

Re: PDS no go
Battery voltages sound too high except for the one.
Did you let batteries set at least 12 hours after charge to check at rest? Double check your water levels, should be 1/4" below filler. Too little water will raise specific gravity which raises voltage. The charger may not be shutting off because it sees the one low battery. What kind of charger do you have? Do you have a 6volt charger that you can put on that one battery? Charge it up good and then run the cart and recharge that battery again. Then recharge the whole pack. Also you can check the voltage while the charger is running. I usually see an on charge voltage of 46-47 volts before my charger shuts off. Sometimes my charger says its done but I unplug/replug it to restart it. Then it runs a couple more hours before it shuts off again. |
