Default Which brush set do I need?

My 1977 Ez-go that I converted to a Utv stopped on me today.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...struction.html
I found after alot of looking, a brush had it's wire come out of the carbon stuff.
I need to know what set to get?
Can't find anything on the net so far that says it will fit this.
So here is ALL the numbers I can find and a photo.
Can someone guide me as to what I need? Also, is there 2 or 4 brushes on this motor?

Cart numbers
770805
134037.

Motor info
5 BC 488JB 620A
2800 rpm 55 amp
2 hp 36 volts
Series wound motor
Glass B
4077
3122
BNN

Also here is a photo of the good brush that I can see from the top.

If one brush was bad chances are the motor probably needs all the carbon dust to be blown out at. If its like mine it has 2 brushes, I would remove the motor and take it to a place that rebuilds electric motors, thats what I did, the guy knew just what it needed.

I just went through this on my 92 marathon.

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-go-motor.html

Your brushes look similar to mine from your picture, but I think you need to see what the studs look like? You should probably pull your motor apart to clean the brush dust out. My loose wire welded slag to the brush holder. I needed to clean that up a little with a jewelrs file. You can't have anything dragging or holding up the brushes.

It would be a good time to replace your bearing as well.

My brush set was for GE motors "80-93" so it may not be the same as yours.

Looking at your picture again, you're brushes appear different than mine as mine ar e welded to the studs. Yours appear to have a spade that's screwed to a connection point.

That pic is like mine best I can tell.
It is a odd problem. the cart was working great,I had put in some battery's about a month ago that are nearly new gel cell battery's and it has been going fine.I had just pulled a trailer load of brush to the woods and was headed back to the shop and i went to go and it stuttered and quit.
The wire where it goes into the carbon, was just hanging. the carbon had blown out or something.
Aggravating problem for sure.
If I pull this motor the bolts are in behind the gears in the rear end right?
Oh my,not a job I was ready for right now as I am covered in lawnmower repairs.

Pull the access plate behind the seat (assume 77 has one?) and go at it from the top. Much easier. There should be 3 bolts holding the motor to the upper differential housing. The bolts on the bell/brush end are for disassembling the motor one its on the bench. Although, it's possible you could change the brushes through your access point.

There was an EZgo part number referenced on the link I posted. Those could be the brushes you need. I'm not sure how to get the part number for your motor though. Did you find a parts list during your rebuild by chance?

I didnt rebuild the motor when I built the cart. It worked fine so I left well enough alone. I think age and heat caused this.I will photo the bad 1 and post. I posted the good 1so folks could see what i had.

As someone whos learned from his mistakes, don't half @ss it, remove it, clean it, inspect it, replace the brushes and bearings at a minimum.

Well I went to a place this morning in Charlotte Nc, American Auto and Truck Electric with a brush in hand.I ask what caused this issue and they said "it musta got hot or is old". I ask what I needed to do, it was " clean the copper and replace."
These folks rebuild and repair golf cart motors and chargers as part of their business and have been recommended to me by alot of local mechanics over the years for all kinds of motor repairs.
So I bought 4 new brushes and came home, did the same procedure I do on Model T starters and such with the sandpaper and a sharp object cleaning between each copper strip. I blowed the dust out of it and installed the brushes. It works great now.
BTW< the link above for the brushes is a bargain.
I just needed to get this thing moving so I paid a couple dollars apiece more but if you add shipping I guess it came out close enough.
