Exclamation Rear brake pad replacement

So I called my EZGO dealer yesterday to get a price on replacement pads for the rear disk brakes. The dealer advised that the cost was $175.00

The conversion from drum brakes to disk brakes was done at the time of purchase and the cart was ordered from EZGO (new) so I am assuming that the brakes were an EZGO item as well, dealer installed.

Questions:
1. - Can I tell by looking the brand/make of the pads?
2. - Are there aftermarket/3rd party pads available?

The dealer is about 3 hours north, and that's the closes place.

Thanks,
PuJo

That setup is made by Ausco. EZ-Go is now using them on some of their line. Pads are available from shopezgo.com as well as cartsunlimited.com (site sponsor). Very easy replacement.

I think they could be had on ebay for a fraction of that?

I know disk stops better than drum but I have no problem locking up my tires with the drum so is there a gain to be made? You can only stop as good as your traction...which I can easily overcome with drums.

And drum brakes are like $25 shipped to house off ebay.

I may be wrong.

The disc brakes are easier to regulate and definately stop shorter than the OEM drum setup. They also have the benefit of replacing the OEM drum/hub with a hard alloy hub/rotor assembly virtually eliminating the stripped hub problem so common on EZ-Go carts. Locking up your brakes will lengthen your stopping distance. Sliding isn't braking.

Good to know on the hub thing.

I agree sliding is not stopping. But you want to be right there at the point before lockup. I guess my point was that if I can easily lock them up with a firm push I could be right at that point before lockup which is where maximum braking occurs. And you can only brake as well as your tires will give traction.

Hey guys,
I did find the ones on Carts Unlimited. Will be making the order shortly.

When I ordered the cart from EZGO, I told them that I had stripped several hubs in the past and they said that this upgrade would eliminate the hub issues. We also ride in the woods from time to time, and I found that we were getting mud into the drum brakes, and they stop working. Converting to disk brakes also eliminated that issue as well.

Its a better all around braking system and HD hub replacement IMO.

Thanks,
PuJo
