Default What is this device?

Have this 2001 CC DS Series that I'm fixing up. Removed the batteries to replace them and cleaned up the battery compartment area. Noticed this electrical device mounted to the inside left frame rail. It says "Caution Hot" on top and has 20030213 stamped on it. Wires run up to what I'm guessing is a grounding terminal mounded just left of F&R switch. Another wire runs back to the stock speed controller B- lug. I have no idea what it is for and why it might get hot. None of the schematics I have show this device. Any ideas?

That is the 16-12 volt reducer. It provides negative for lights etc. you pick up the positive from number five battery positive post.

That is the garbage 16>12v reducer which will reduce the life of the 2 batteries under the drivers seat by 1 year minimum
