Default FNKS location - need ideas

My XCT400 upgrade budget included enough to buy the FNKS remote control (at least before I realized there were so many more little things I was missing). Now that I have it, I don't know where to put it. I'm filling the stock dash with a couple of gauges and switches so there is no room there. Besides, I'm not really liking the idea of mounting it on the face. Not only will it look bad, it will be too easy for unsuspecting drivers to enable more power than I'd like them to have.

So, aside from putting it under the seat, does anyone have ideas where else I can mount it? I thought about putting it on the underside of the front cowl, above the steering column.

That's a good question. You would have to have it somewhere you can see it, especially if you want to adjust regen. I am going to tackle this project sometime this year and I am looking at maybe just mounting a regen dial on the dash and getting a three position key switch for the power modes. Have the key removable at each stop. That way other drivers (the daughter) will not be able to adjust it without the key.

My buddy mounted his inside the left cubby hole. It is mounted on the right side nearest the steering column. You cannot really see it, but its out the way and he just reaches in and turns it if he wants too.

That key switch idea is a good option. Should not be hard to implement.
I will have to get an Alltrax first...

That key switch is a great idea. The only one I've ever seen that works in that way is an elevator key.

Time to get my Google Foo going!

Thanks!

I like to mount it to the firewall below the seat cushion by my knee.
It is easy to reach without pulling myself up out of the seat while driving.
The Regen adjustment is especially fun if I need to brake harder or softer as I'm slowing.

Lately in mode 3 I'm setting the regen from 0-100 so I can turn it off if desired for high speed cruising where it is not appreciated and then turn it back up for the stop sign or ?

When you find it let me know.
I haven't really looked yet as I'm still months away from this project.

Scottyb, did You ever find out from Alltrax (or from your own testing) what happens if you put a switch and disconnect the potentiometer of the FNKS after it is adjusted?

Does it stay on the last adjusted value, on a center value or defaults to the bottom of the configured range?

It looks like a simple three position ON-ON-ON switch with the resistance logic controlled externally. Easy!

A quick search turned up this switch, Aside from possibly being out of voltage range (28V max) it looks like it should work.

Switch looks good and it does say key is removable in the description and datasheet.

28VCD should be fine as it is probably switching low level logic signal.

On the FNKS pot, I think the value is probably a 10k but the red wire covers the first digit.
Bourns makes good stuff, I know it says Mexico Si!

Noticed the resistor solder connection on the switch doesn't look that good.
I would solder it again.
