I don’t know how to park the bushes. If I did I would have done it a long time ago :-)

In your situation you would have to put the case on first. Hopefully after you slide the end cap on just enough for the brushes to make contact there would be a little gap left where you could fit a L shaped tool into to push the brushes in place. Hey it's worth a try. It's better than buying a new motor, at this point.

I did one like this once. The armature was stuck on the shaft and I couldn't get it off the shaft. I just drilled a tiny small hole in the aluminum case right above the brush. Put the end cap on and used a finish nail and pushed the brush down, till the spring snapped in place. Then I put a little spot on RT sealer over the holes. Never had a problem with it

It actually worked! That idea was good and I got the brushes replaced. I feel bad for the next person to try to replace this motor but it won’t be me…
