If you are not familiar with it, look for a stamped letter & number. Like "D7" which would reveal 4 (April) and 7 (2017) manufactured date.

The date codes might look something like this:

Oh CRAP, I hope I am dreaming! Either my meter has gone crazy or my charger ruined my new batteries??? Just checked them after first charge, pack read 32V and each around 6V!!! Put the charger back on and pack read 42V.

IS THAT POSSIBLE?

That is very unlikely, most likely your meter battery is low and You need to replace it.

You can try measuring the 12v battery on your car/truck to make sure the reading is accurate.

Multimeters are like smoke alarms in that you should change your batteries once per year.

Too bad that multimeters do not have a battery self test feature where you could push a button and determine the meter battery voltage ... Fluke are you listening?

I changed my meter battery a few days ago and it was 8.44 volts after 2 years. The fresh battery was 9.47 volts ... the meter still seemed to be working OK but I didn't want to start getting bad readings, so changed it. I also put a battery change date label on the side of the meter so I would know better next time.

I agree with Sergio, it is likely your meter battery

Yep, at least part of the problem was weak 9v battery in meter. After replacing pack read 50+V, each about 8.4v. Ran forward/reverse about 100' and each read 8-8.1V, forgot pack reading. Put back on charger and steady climbing higher above 53V.

So let me 'man up' and confess that my reading on those 7.7 volt batteries yesterday may have been faulty reading and I may have missed out on a good deal. Oh yeah, hind sight is 20-20!

I'm kind of surprised that the battery vendor did into pull out his meter and re-check your readings.

He should have had more interest in his product than just to shrug his shoulders, put them back on the shelf and sell them to the next customer that came along.
