Re: new batteries voltage
Go test your meter on your truck battery.

Re: new batteries voltage
As suggested, test your meter against a known battery voltage - your vehicle (could be some variance there) or a fresh 9 volt, AA or AAA (etc.) battery to get an idea of the accuracy of your meter. Anything with a DC voltage.

Re: new batteries voltage
Unless you can return it under warranty, the best thing to do with it is 1 remove/save the leads, and 2, toss into the trash or burn barrel if you have one. A meter that is not repeatable is worse than no meter at all. There are quality meters out there for reasonable money. Klein, Fluke, Amprobe among others come to mind quick. [A clampmeter for AC/DC is really handy on carts!]

[QUOTE=ThreeCW;1568135]Multimeters are like smoke alarms in that you should change your batteries once per year.
Too bad that multimeters do not have a battery self test feature where you could push a button and determine the meter battery voltage ... Fluke are you listening? My Fluke 325 has a battery indicator. Good thing 'cause I go through a LOT more than 2 batts a year. |
