Best options to go from 6 batteries to 4 12v batteries?

I thought I was in the clear for this 48v upgrade until I pulled my old batteries and realized the 12v batteries were much bigger. Anyone know of a thread of someone fixing this issue? I have a welder and can put in and cut out some angle iron, but would be nice to see someone that has already done it. Thanks!

Just to elaborate, the stock battery tray is a 36v (6x6V) EZGO TXT.

I don't ask why, did the same some years ago ( cheaper and much less weight for me ) but went with 3 x 12v. Cut the middle t-profile of the battery tray out and weld a new one in. Can't say how it works with the 4. battery

FWIW:

Driving distance on a single charge as well as the cradle to grave lifespan of the batteries is highly dependent on the storage capacity of the battery pack. The greater the storage capacity, the greater the range and lifespan.

Using a typical 36V battery pack as a baseline and since we'll be comparing different voltage battery packs. I'll use Watt-Hours (AH x V = WH)

The typical 36V pack is made up of six 6V - 225AH batteries and has 8100WH. (36 x 225 = 8100)

The typical 48V pack is made up of six 8V - 170AH batteries and has 8160WH. (48 x 170 = 8160)

In other words, those two packs have roughly the same range and lifespan.

A typical 12V deep cycle battery has 150AH of storage, so a 36V pack using 12V batteries has 5400WH (33.3% less than normal range and lifespan) and a 48V pack using 12V batteries has 7200WH (11.8% less than normal range and lifespan).
