06 G22A valve clearance? & idle
Hi,
I am new here, I just purchased an 06 yamaha gas golf car. G22A engine. I am going through some regular maintenance, ( oil, valves , air, diff) but the valve lash specs are not printed on the engine label. Downloaded the owner's manual from Yamaha and specs are not in there. I have some questions, looking for help. What is the (cold) spec for valve clearance for intake and exhaust? The air filter's pre-filter is missing, is it a big deal? should I get one? Idle: I would like to set up the cart to idle with the ignition ON engine running- brake applied, I see that the carb has an idle screw but turned out. WOuld setting an idle with this screw maintain an idle? Does it also has an ignition cut when the brake is set? this will be a neighborhood car , lots of stop and go, no reason to kill the engine and restart at every stop sign. Thank you GK |

Valve setting is 4 thousanths (when cold), if you do a search in this section, you'll find really good posts on valve adjustment/why or why not to have your car idle, ect. Yes you should have an air filter and pre filter, 2 things can hurt an engine...dirt and no oil. Good luck

Re: 06 G22A valve clearance? & idle
I was not talking about idle air mixture,
I was talking about setting an idle with the idle stop adjust screw screw with a spring on the outside of the carb on the top. but thanks for the warning. I set the valves, they were loose. Also the throttle cable was misadjested or stretched. With the gas pedal ON, starter engaged--> turned the engine but the engine did not fire up/idle till the pedal was pushed about half way. Meaning the throttle butterfly valve did not start opening. |

Re: 06 G22A valve clearance? & idle
Some may not agree, but I do suggest that you adjust the idle mixture. After it is warm you can improve off idle to mid range throttle response by adjusting that needle screw.
The 1 1/2 turns out is just a starting point. Run a warm engine is neutral from off idle to mid range, rev it up and listen to it. Then turn it out maybe a quater turn, and rev it up again. If it responds better go another 1/8 turn, if it's better yet go another 1/8. If it's worse, screw it back in,again reving it up to mid range and listen to it's responce. You can dial it right in, then take it for a drive, you may have to again make small adjustments, but you can make it run very well on bottom end for putting around and it will respond very well as you apply throttle through mid range. Try it, you can always go back to 1 1/2 turns out! Good luck Mike |
