Default 1999 G16 dies on hills

Hello everyone,

I've got a problem with my 1999 G16. It runs great on level ground - but as soon as the cart is on any incline or decline, it loses revs and stalls out for a couple seconds then starts up again and dies and then repeats this. It's as if the fuel pick-up is sucking air for a second. There's plenty of fuel in the tank and the fuel filter is new.

I've checked it out with the rear wheels in the air - revs forever on level ground, but when I put the cart on an angle and try it it runs for 10 seconds, idles down, then runs for 10 seconds and then idles down.

I can upload a video later if necessary. What should I be looking for?

Could there be anything in the tank blocking the fuel flow?

Take the bowl off the carb, check for and clean out the debris.

Also, I've just installed a power spring and have noticed that the throttle right now is like an on/off switch. Wondering if I've knocked something out of adjustment and how I can adjust this for more of a linear throttle delivery? Also noticed that when you get off the throttle the engine backfires... sometimes even after the engine has idled down and shut off it'll bang like a gun...

Lank, read the sight, all the old posts, you will learn much about your G16. All your issues are tune-up and maintainance related. All are covered if you sit back and read. And then if you ever break down when your out, you will know how to fix it.
Much info. here,

The carb needs to come off and the float level checked.
It sounds like it is right on the edge of being set to low and you are running out of fuel on hills (under more load).
The backfire is coming from the throttle plate on the carb not closing all of the way when you release the pedal.
Check you linkage for binding and make sure the throttle stop screw is letting it close completely.
Screw the stop screw out until the throttle closes all the way and then screw the stop screw back in until it just touches it then 1/16th turn more.

Hey guys, problem solved.

I readjusted the float level and cleaned out the float bowl. Noticed that the throttle cable was seized as well so it wasn't returning the butterfly to closed. I bypassed the governor, lubricated the cable, and adjusted the carb and it runs like a champ now.

Thanks everyone for your help!
