Clutch help needed!
Guys, I need help, I have new to me 1992 Yamaha G8 that has seen NO maintenance. The helix on the secondary clutch has the buttons wore down flush with the bolts, I can't preload the spring due to this and it has wore the sliding sheave ramps down some. I took the secondary apart and the brass bushing fell out, the sheave moves a lot on the trans shaft. Can it be re-used with a new bushing, seals etc, etc, or should just replace it? The helix with new buttons should be okay I hope? I also took the cover off the primary it looks clean, but has a little movement on the fixed sheave. I attached pics, if anyone can help me out with what to do, or parts that would be great!
Thanks, Rat |

Re: Clutch help needed!
Rat, to start with, there should be a shaft spacer or cir. clip on the tranny shaft, behind the helix( to keep the helix from rubbing the trans case and keep it ingaged to the sheave). Check for this.
Then, the helix maybe ok with new buttons if the screw hole threads are ok. The sec. sheave maybe still be usuable if new bushings and seals are used, but I think if it were me I might replace it ($50.00), for a trouble free running car. Don't want to go in there more than you have to. I see the one ramp is gulled, but its not on the side that is used, so I'm concerned that the spacer/circlip is not there. I have only done one car, so my opinion may not hold water. The big guys will be along soon to help. Don't know your location, but venders on this sight can help with parts and reccomendations. Also may want to do torque spring at this time, very important if large tires is in the future. Primary looks ok, Mine is a little bit sloppy also, and it was new. On second look, I'd replace the sheave, just a little to tore up and may take out the new buttons. |

Re: Clutch help needed!
Mike is correct,
Replace the helix slides and the sliding sheave, Also replace the snap ring with input shaft spacer (much stronger) and you should be good to go |
