Default 1987 bracket

I'm in the process of putting the engine back together but cant figure out where this bracket goes? Any ideas?

thats a broken peice of what looks like part of the starter bracket...........did you take that peice off?.....................................

Yes i did take it apart. The bracket is very thin to be for the starter. Do you have a picture of where it goes?

It's not from the S/G bracket, they don't taper like that. It also appears to have a convex shape around the hole and a curve across the bottom. Reminds me of an old speedometer or clutch cable hold down bracket.

where was it located when you took it off? isn,t there a spot on the backside of engine where the starter bracket bolts over another thinner bracket of some kind?................................

Thats the problem I'm not sure where it goes. I took a bunch of pictures before i took it a part but i cant seem to find it in the pictures.

How about taking some more pictures of the "after" from the same location/angle as the "before" pics. Post them up and we could all play "where's the bracket".

Thats strange, I have the engine out of my 89 DS for overhaul or replacement and I cant find that bracket on mine. Is it off the engine itself or the chassis? I can look some more tomorrow but I believe ours should be the same Thanks Jason
