Default backfire problem

Has anyone had this problem.I have rebuilt 1989 kf82 club car new top end new valves carb and fuel pump seems to run very well except when you stop it might take 5-10 seconds then a very impressive backfire will usually happen. did not replace coil but have never heard of any problems so I was thinking the ingition was shuting off but it runs so well Im looking for ideas

Did you check the valve lash when you replaced the valves? The tappet clearance should be .004 to .008.

yes checked and adjusted. whats really different is how long it takes it seems the engine is shut off and Im sitting for 5 or more seconds then backfire. Im not sure where the inginition is coming from to make a backfire but I did shave head so it has more compression than stock wow sounds like a rifle going off. Anyone with kf82 ever have coil problems or ingintion switch problems

You might check the timing. Try advancing or retarding slightly either way until it stops. This is just a guess. I'm not that fimilar with this engine. Also check gap on coil.
