But a shorter belt wouldn't affect whether or not IF the engine hits the limiter. just WHEN....right?

I have not done it so I am only speculating but a shorter belt won't be higher up the clutch when the rev limiter hits so your overall ratio is effected. Like putting in lower gears. Your engine will still be hitting the rev limiter but the speed will be lowered cause your overall ratio will be changed. Only way to know for sure is to GPS it before and after and see the results.

My GPS speed when the rev limiter kicked in was 20-21mph with the new shorter belt. I did not check speed with original belt but I'm pretty confident it wasn't any faster by the time the rev limiter kicked in. I think it may have taken a couple more seconds to get there because of the longer, worn, original belt which was on the cart. Overall the cart feels more responsive to throttle and feels like it reaches top speed quicker but definately doesn't feel slower. I overlayed the belts on one another before I installed the new belt. The new belt was not that much shorter, probably less than an inch. I would think you would have to have size differences of over 1 to 2 inches or more before you would see or feel any real substancial performance difference.

I have been running the shorter belt for a year or so and It took a month or so to break in and I might have lost a few MPH at top end but sense then I regained the top and still have the torque. It takes a little bit of time but will return.
