Default 1975 ezgo

finally got it running. when up on jack stands it really runs great, revs up really good. But when it is on the ground it starts out good then it acts like it is running out of fuel. Why would it make a difference. Also cut off that 1/2 in pipe on end of muffler and added a 1 1/4 inch pipe that foes into the exhaust pipe under cart. Does it need back pressure to run or is it something else. Have completely cleaned card removed jets and blew out orifices.thanks all

It will run without back pressure, just not so well and you don't want to do it for long. What happens with these engines is that about half of your fuel air mix gets pushed into the exhaust and back pressure shoves it back in to the combustion chamber just in time for ignition. One of the tests for a backed up muffler involves disconnecting the muffler to see if it runs better. So yes, it will run without backpressure, just like I said, don't do it for long. You want your exhaust on that cart as close to stock as possible.

Also, are you talking about the little tiny pipe that exits the muffler? If that's all, I don't even have one anymore. It's just a hole that blows straight onto the ground. The rest of the exhaust is all intact and extremely close to stock.

yes, I removed the small pipe on end of muffler and put a larger pipe in. Enlarged hoe, also on inside of front of muffler I drilled a 1 inch hole thinking it would help with exhaust. But why would it run okay on jack stands , but when its on the ground it seems like it is starving for fuel and wants to die. thanks for help

Dirty carb, bad crank seals, reed valves, low compression...

cleaned carb out twice. removed jets and blew out orfices. 115 compression. It starts on jack stands sometime and revs up and tires are spinning fast, but when on ground it will move 15 feet and acts like its straving for fuel again thanks for reply
