Please help identify this part
I have an EZGO 1988 2stroke marathon. It was running great when suddenly is slowed down. Sounds like the electric part is working but the motor won't kick on. I found a bare wire wrapped around the back axle, the other end is on a lever attached to a white round platic thing with a cone shape on one end. The lever is on this end. I would post a picture but i don't know how. Please help. Do you know what this is?

The white thing is your driven clutch & the "lever" is the govenor, the other end of the "bare wire" should be hooked to the carburetor linkage(I think).

Re: Please help identify this part
So would that be my problem? I think its been disconnected and ran fine about 40mph then suddenly slowed down to a crawl. Something i didn't mention before was the battery cap came off and spilled out some acid and thats when it started running slow but i replaced the water and fully charged the battery but still not acting right. The starter generator belt turns fine but the bigger belt doesn't engage. I'm not sure what to do next.

Re: Please help identify this part
Use a compression tester. Many auto parts stores (autozone, advance, orileys, etc) have a "loan a tool" program in which you put down a deposit on the tool when you check it out and then you get all of your money back when you return it.

I dont think that motor will do 40mph. 25mph tops for a stocker.

Not sure if its a stock motor. I could take a picture of it to show you. I know that it is faster than your normal golf cart.

Re: Please help identify this part
Stock 2pg/3pg ungoverened with 22" tires might turn 27mph on a good day on a flat-road or smooth trail. If you ran it downhill, you might break 30,but you'll break the motor as well!
