Re: Danger!! Runaway rxv...NO BRAKES !!
Pretty common with early RXVs. The motor brakes with the handle are being replaced with a new, no handle brake.

Re: Danger!! Runaway rxv...NO BRAKES !!
but have you ever heard of them failing in the open position meaning the cart can't stop? no brakes? neither the pedal nor the electronic parking brake work.

Re: Danger!! Runaway rxv...NO BRAKES !!
I have heard the rxv brakes were a problem in the early years. My local golf cart shop said ezgo fixed in completely in the 2010+ model years. Is this true?

Definitely not what I did. I pulled off the cart path onto the fairway just a few feet, turned it off and then it hasn't been the same. I'll tinker a bit more when kids go to sleep tonight.

Re: Danger!! Runaway rxv...NO BRAKES !!
ok. like I said, my car had NO brakes. no e-brake, no stopping with the pedal. I called my tech guy at local dealer. He said they thought it was motor brake frozen in open position, although they never heard of that happening... I just so happened to have a spare motor brake. I swapped it out and it is FIXED!! I knew 1/2 way through it was going to work. once I took out the 3 screws, it loosed up and device and already had grabbed the motor again and stopped rolling. But I didn't want to just tighten it up again cause it could happen again, so I swapped it and the new one works great. I took it for a test drive last night and all is well. So for either locked up brakes or NO brakes, the motor brake is the culprit.

Yes I have seen it fail with no brakes. I know a guy who was loading 10 or so on a car hauler. Half way up the ramp the brake failed and free rolled off the truck with him on it. He went to the hospital

Re: Danger!! Runaway rxv...NO BRAKES !!
Did you swap it with another brake with a handle? If so, I would expect it to fail as well. It needs to be swapped with the new no handle unit.
