Default Choke applied at every start?

Hi guys
New to the site and this looks like the place to be for these questions.

I purchased a 80 G1 cart about a week ago. It runs ok. I seem to have to apply the choke at every start even at a warm engine. Is this normal? Also I know these are 2 stroke engines but it smells so rich with fuel but acts like a lean condition by needing choke at every start. I have gone thru the carb complete and it's clean. Fuel is fresh. Could use a new plug which I will get now as I am going to pull it into the garage to start working on.

Thanks for any and all help

Do it before the motor's toast. Quit driving it. Do a compression test to see if its already toast.

Thanks guys. I see I didn't subscribe to the post and didn't notice any replies. I couldn't take the chance and sold the cart a day later. Sorry for not getting back.
