Default Installed 15:1 torque gears need Help "soon" please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well guys I installed the 15:1 torque gears and now the thing sounds like a Polaris atv. It wines like crazy. With just the input and the intermediate gear while still dry I turned it by hand and it made a small roar then. There was a good bit of back lash. There was two sets on eBay by same Co. with same description with different photo's so I called to make sure I got the right set. Oh and by the way they also had different price's.And naturally I was sold the cheaper of the two. Now I know why...:( Has anyone else had this problem. I email the seller and this is the reply I got.

Tell you the truth I have not had any real noise issues with the gears properly installed. If by chance they are install a little off that could cause some issues. The gears should be installed by a mechanic. As for the price I had them marked down to reduce inventory. The gear oil commonly used in the EZGO Ele is 90 wt. I hope this helps. ****he originally said they were an old set that just been sitting on the shelf to long.****

My reply::::Well, I had a feeling I would get a reply like this. I have been a certified mechanic for the past 20+ years. They where installed correctly. the input shaft itself has step down cut into the gear on one end which I think is poor precision a machinist or engineer.Any time I install a gear that has a way to adjust backlash I will use a dial indicator alone with bluing it to be certain. Most people I know just use feel. Which in this case it wasn't necessary nor applicable. As a matter of fact there's not any adjustment other than axial witch is aliened perfect. I will add also it took 20k lbs on a electric /hydraulic press to get the intermediate gear compressed. I even brought home a cup spring to apply a little end play pressure on the input shaft. But you got me and it won't happen again.I'm not just some naive little boy. However you have tried to make me into one. Hope your business goes well. I'm sick of doing business with people out of town. You once again have reminded me the importance of doing business local. So I guess I owe you a thank you!!!!
And again His:::::I'm sorry to say I don't make the parts I just sell them. I get my gears from the same machinist shop as everyone ells on the net. If you think they are defective I would be happy to see about having you send them back and we can get you a replacement set. I really don't know what more I can do. Let me know

This was something once I replace I would have thought I would be done. Now I've got to go back in and redo stinks. Has anyone else had this problem???

Ive never heard of anyone having issues like that on a cart. Do you think it may be hitting something inside the case? ....well....you'd pretty much know that while installing it. Be sure and let us know the ebay sellers name. It may or may not be their fault but with the "reduced" price it sure seems like it was "reduced" because they were machined wrong. No sense in it happening to others if they are.

What year Ezgo are we talking about? There should not be any type of ridge on the input gear. That will cause a growl ?

Maybe you can get another input?
Maybe the seller will look at the other sets he has to see if the same problem is on all sets.

P.S. 30wt oil is the recommended fluid

Surprised he didn't recommend a handful of sawdust

Recently I was trying to piece together a gear set from my bone yard. I had an input with a wear ridge and boy did it ever growl
Worse case scenario ~ You buy a new input? If he won't try to make it right be sure to leave him negative feedback.

I wish I would have took a picture of it. maybe when i tear it apart i will. Now to my understanding with a speed kit you change the lower two gears "intermediate fixed gear/primary" and a torque kit the top two " removable intermediate gear/ input gear". Also i thought that a Gaser used 30wt and the electric used 85-90 gear lube. But either way before any was added the gear made a very rough sound just by turning by hand. He said he would be willing to swap for another set. But I'm just leery now. By the way it's a 200 txt pds re-gen drive.

Sledgehammer, how do the 15:1 compare to the 12:44 stock gears? I have all the speed I need in the woods, but am looking for the torque now.

Sig has all of my specs.

Well they give me what I was wanting just had too much winning to them. But it was the vendor not the gears. I put the old gears back in and everything is back to normal. I drop from 23mph to 17 with the them but wheelie with no one on back. I would check with PQ to get your stock motor rewound.

What kind of torque increase do you think you got? The motor is going to PQ as soon soon as funds are available for the Bandit upgrade - just exploring all of my options.

I use this 100% for hunting and can't always say what the roads and trails will look like and would just like all I can get when I need it.

I think you'll be satisfied. Just don't buy them from east coast out of Fla.
