G22 rear end noise
I just installed a completely rebuilt engine from Plowman's. The motor purrs like a kitten. As I was driving I noticed a loud grinding type noise in the rear end as it gets up to speed. It does the same if it is in neutral. It does not make the noise at very slow speeds. Driven clutch? Input shaft bearing? Any help would be appreciated. I took a pic of the driven clutch

Looks like youve had a leak for some time around the input shaft by the looks of the oil on the rearend.

Thanks for the reply dbmachine! Is there a seal that goes inside the transmission for the input shaft? I do check the rear end oil and have to add some often. If it is leaking is that an indication that the input shaft bearing is bad as well? Thanks

I had the same leak on my 09 g29 but wasnt bad at all. Maybe a drop of oil every week. But one drop of oil and dirt dust mixes looks like alot. I sold that cart and never had a chance to get it looked at as to what parts were needed to stop the leak. Take the belt off and start in neutral and see if the noise happens again. That way you can rule out any possibilities of the primary making noises.

If the seal is bad, you may be getting dirt or other junk in the input shaft bearing. It's not a sealed unit, so it may be contaminated.

Input shaft bearing is a common cause of "roaring" sound in those axles.

Looks like the spring seat spacer, is rubbing up against the case. But you definitely have a large oil leak.
